No Sound Before Testing? Check These Things First

In case of any issues with audio clarity, mic recording, or getting device response, there is no surety if your headset, speakers, or microphone is broken; So you can try fixing with these techniques:

Check the Hardware

  • See whether the devices are connected to the correct ports or if the power is on or not.
  • Review the physical volume knobs on the sound device or laptop you are using
  • Replug the wired equipment into different USB ports or audio jacks
  • If using Bluetooth, check proper device pairing. Or charge and see if it is selected as the active audio device.

Check System Sound and Browser Settings

  • Muting your system, media, or particular browser tabs should be avoided, and the media volume must be turned up.
  • The system’s audio mixer should also be checked to ensure the needed playback device connection is set as the default output.
  • Many a time, the audio may be sent to an earlier set, but now a disconnected device; therefore, a quick check is a time saver.
  • In case of repetitive test failure, refresh the page or retry with a different browser.

Microphone-Specific Fixes

  • The browser must have permission to access the mic. Other than this, your computer should be using the right input device rather than defaulting to a webcam.

How do I check if my headphones are working correctly?

What does the frequency sweep do?

It plays pure tones from really deep bass (20Hz, more of a rumble you feel) all the way up to super high pitches (20,000Hz, dogs hear this better than we do). This helps you spot if your speakers or headphones struggle at certain frequencies. Crackling at low bass? Might be a loose driver. Can't hear the high stuff? Why can't I hear very low bass frequencies?
